Keystone Ancient Forest
At the Keystone Ancient Forest, we extend a warm invitation for you to embark on an extraordinary journey through the timeless beauty of an Oklahoma cross timbers forest. Here, ancient cedars, some with roots dating back 500 years, and majestic post oak trees that have proudly graced the landscape for 300 years come together to create an enchanting and awe-inspiring atmosphere. Step into this magical realm and discover the wonders it holds within its boundaries, all nestled within a 1,380-acre nature preserve. This cherished destination has received the distinguished recognition of The Nature Conservancy, solidifying its status as one of the planet's last great treasures. Notably, it stands as the first property in Oklahoma to become a proud member of the Old Growth Forest Network.
To enhance your experience, we've provided a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled visitor center, offering a tranquil space to unwind and delve into the rich history and ecology of the cross timbers. The management of the property is supported by dedicated city staff and a group of passionate Trail Ambassadors, each with their own unique passion for the forest. Inside the visitor center, you'll also find a selection of high-quality merchandise, with the proceeds contributing to the conservation efforts aimed at protecting this invaluable forest.
Inclusivity is of paramount importance to us, which is why we've ensured the presence of ADA-compliant trails and all-terrain track chairs, guaranteeing that everyone, regardless of mobility limitations, can fully partake in the forest's breathtaking beauty. This sanctuary is teeming with a diverse array of wildlife, including deer, mountain lions, bobcats, American eagles, migratory birds, and a stunning variety of over 80 butterfly species. In fact, we are currently developing a butterfly savanna, which, upon completion, will be one of the largest butterfly savannas in the state. We wholeheartedly encourage you to savor the natural wonders of this place, but please remember to leave behind nothing but your footprints as you explore and cherish its remarkable beauty.
Property is locked promptly at closing time.
