SSPD Policing Plan
Policing Plan 2016
The Sand Springs Police Department has released their plan for working better with the Sand Springs Community, minimizing some of the issues that have plagued departments on a national level, responding to requests made by national civil rights groups as well as placing expectations on the way citizens should behave toward officers.

The department started development of this plan in 2015 after taking into account some of the criticisms from the Ferguson MO. report from the Department of Justice. The Sand Springs plan was finished after national incidents in 2016 which included several police shootings that have drawn criticism of civil rights groups as well as the murder of numerous police officers across the nation.

The plan addresses, training, policies, contract provisions, officer conduct, citizen conduct towards officers, municipal court operations, community outreach as well as other areas of influence in this discussion.

The Sand Springs Police Department has always enjoyed great support from the community, but it is their goal to always look to find better ways to work with the community that they serve.

One item referenced in the plan is the plan for SSPD to no longer investigate officer involved shootings or in custody deaths when SSPD officers are involved.  You can see a copy of the agreement between the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Sand Springs Police Department here:  OSBI-SSPD MOU
