'Through Bright Eyes: An artistic look at life through photography'

“Through Bright Eyes: An artistic look at life through photography” is currently featured
at the Sand Springs Museum. In cooperation with the Oklahoma Arts Council and the
National Endowment for the Arts, the exhibit showcases the work of travel journalist and
Sand Springsʼ native, Sheilah Bright.
A former editor of the Sand Springs Leader, Bright has spent the past 20 years working
as a freelance writer/photographer with a recent emphasis on world cultures. She is a
contributing editor for both Oklahoma Today and Mia magazine, and her work has been
published in many newspapers and magazines. In 2010, National Geographic
Expeditions chose her Antarctica photograph as a top 25 photo finalist. Most recently,
she returned from a six-week trip to Austria, Serbia, Thailand, Bhutan and India. Brightʼs
photography from the first invitational trek to eastern Bhutan will debut at the local show
and offers a rare glimpse into life of the Brokpa people.
As part of the exhibit, the Sand Springs Museum will host several photography and
travel workshops, including a hands-on program for student photographers.
The exhibit will run through Aug. 1. Museum hours are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday. Other times available by appointment.
